The music swells, the spotlight focuses, the audience hold their breath. It's time for you and your team to sing a completely improvised song. Don't panic. This course will get you singing whole songs with a chorus, verses and a bridge. Our goal is to have you doing scenes that turn into songs with backing singers and choreography. With Phil on keys, you can't hit a bum note.
You must have a taken at least one improv course to take this workshop.
You must have rhythm. You don't have to be able to sing, but you have to be able to keep a beat.
My style of teaching is less talk, more action. I'll get you doing more of the things that make improv easy and less of the things that make improv difficult. I know that fun improv relies on skills that must be practised into habit. The principles I teach are sincerity, reliability and respect. Read feedback for my teaching
"It's the perfect balance of having tons of fun while also pushing my boundaries as an improviser."
My teaching is about following your curiosity and exploring the what ifs. I want to share with you the magical ability of music to expand your scenes. A nerd of nuance and a fan of metaphor. To me there are no shoulds in the art of the improvised - no rules in improv theatre and no wrong note in music.
Twenty years of my musical exploration and since getting into improv theatre in 2018 have been increasingly combining these two fascinating art forms. I can't wait to hear the music that is already in you as I accompany you on piano.
